Persecuted Christians Show Gratitude to Hungarians for Lifesaving Support

Tristan Azbej

In a heartfelt video message, persecuted Christians have thanked the Hungarian people for their support, the State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade reported on Monday.

According to Tristan Azbej, the persecution of Christians is not a thing of the past, but a “bloody reality” of the present: based on estimates, 380 million believers worldwide are affected by discrimination, and hundreds of millions of them suffer every day simply because of their faith in Christ.

Two shocking examples from recent weeks prove this: a few days ago, armed men attacked a church in Syria, while at the beginning of the month, hundreds of internally displaced persons were massacred in Nigeria, he wrote.

The State Secretary emphasized that the Hungarian government and the compassionate Hungarian people have stood by the world’s persecuted Christians since 2016: through the Hungary Helps Program, they have provided assistance to those suffering because of their faith in more than fifty countries and supported the humanitarian work of churches.

We have improved the lives of more than two million people, helped millions of people to remain in their homeland, saved lives, rebuilt biblical sites, and brought hope where the world was silent, he pointed out.

“This is what Hungary and the Hungarian nation mean to persecuted Christians around the world: life, home, hope. We know that the sacrifice of the martyrs is not about death, but about the power of life. They are witnesses to living hope that overcomes fear, to love that does not falter in the face of hatred, and to faith that does not compromise,” Tristan Azbej concluded.
