Wednesday’s drone attack on Poland is an example of the dangerous circumstances we live in every day, with the threat of war being imminent, the Prime Minister said on Friday on the Kossuth Radio program “Good Morning, Hungary!”
Viktor Orbán, who is on a working visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, said that daily life demands people’s attention, but when “sometimes disaster comes to Poland in the form of a few drones,” then suddenly everyone opens their eyes.
He emphasized that the threat of war is imminent. Hungary is not involved in the war, but Poland is directly affected. Hungary is keeping its distance; it is not its war, it is not participating in it, but it is a neighbor of the country where the war is taking place, the head of government explained, adding that this represents a constant and permanent threat of war.
In connection with his visit to Abu Dhabi, the prime minister said that rapid economic growth was developing between Hungary and the Emirates. “So far, Central Europe and Hungary have been absent from the Emirates’ investments, so we thought we should seize the opportunity to become a strategic partner of this country in the region,” said the prime minister. He emphasized that the sectors in which the two countries can cooperate particularly well in the future were identified at the negotiations.
These include the energy sector, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI).

“In the next round of negotiations, we will already be able to conclude some major programs,” said Viktor Orbán, highlighting that trade in goods between Hungary and the Emirates had increased by 24 percent.
Referring to the speech given by the President of the European Commission on Wednesday, the head of government pointed out that Ursula von der Leyen’s policy had four to five pillars that needed to be replaced.
The green transition must be reviewed, as high energy prices are partly due to the green transition, and this is fatal for the European economy. Ukraine policy, sanctions, and trade policy must be reviewed, as a bad agreement has been concluded with the Americans, and migration policy must also be changed, Viktor Orbán listed.
The “We can do it!” program announced by Angela Merkel in Germany and Europe has failed.
Viktor Orbán explained that the problems of Hungary and Western Europe in this area differ, because while “we are fighting to prevent migration to Hungary,” “they have caused the problem” and are now struggling with the serious consequences of a mixed society, the collapse of a unified legal system, the loss of public safety, and the fact that they are becoming targets of terrorist attacks, while “the world’s money is not enough” to provide for the arrivals.
In the context of the three-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine and pressure from Brussels, Viktor Orbán noted that Hungary has already been drawn into two wars against its will. “Prime Minister István Tisza wanted to stay out of World War I, Miklós Horthy out of World War II, but external forces dragged our country into the conflict,” said the head of government, adding: “We did not want to participate in either war, but politicians of von der Leyen’s ilk dragged us in by the hair.” He emphasized
that German-speaking individuals in Western Europe are repeatedly trying to drag Central Europeans, including Hungarians, into a war. This is unacceptable,
the prime minister stressed.
In connection with the assassination attempt on American conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, Viktor Orbán was asked whether verbal aggression had also occurred in Hungary and how physical violence could be kept outside the country’s borders.
“Moderation, a civilized pace, calmness and composure,” replied the Prime Minister. He explained that before anyone says something very rude, they should count to ten. Before we “put on theatrical performances in which we want to hang or shoot one or another leader of the country,” we should sit down for a moment and think: Is this a good idea?
He added that Hungarians are reasonable people who sometimes use harsh words, but when it comes to action, they are usually moderate. We should remain level-headed, if possible also in our statements, the head of government suggested.
