PM Viktor Orbán: Sweden’s People Are Friends, Government Is Not

L-R: Ulf Kristersson and Viktor Orbán

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sharply criticized the Swedish government on Thursday, accusing it of violating Hungary’s sovereignty and undermining its interests, Index reported.

The Swedish people are our friends, but the Swedish government is not a friend of Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on Thursday on X in a message to the Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. In his post, Viktor Orbán summarized the cases in which the Swedish government acted against Hungary.

First, he mentioned Sweden’s intervention in the infringement proceedings initiated over the child protection law, followed by the infringement proceedings initiated over the sovereignty protection law.

You voted to exclude the majority of Hungarian universities from the Erasmus and Horizon programs, as well as to freeze more than half of our EU funds,”

Viktor Orbán reminded them.

He added that they also intervened in court when the Hungarian government challenged the European Commission’s discriminatory Erasmus/Horizon decision. They have been constantly pushing for the next phase of Article 7, and their minister has even made comments such as “we must speak up for children.”

The Prime Minister recalled that the Swedish government was one of those that pushed through the migration pact despite the fact that the European Council’s earlier decision required a unanimous vote on this extremely sensitive issue. This poses a direct threat to Hungary’s security.

PM Orbán added that every country has its own problems. In Sweden, migration is one of them. “However, unlike you, we do not interfere in the sovereignty or internal affairs of other countries, and we do not lecture other countries – but at the same time, we continue to be concerned about you and the Swedish people,” he pointed out.

Fact

Viktor Orbán previously stated that Sweden is collapsing due to criminal gangs, which are now recruiting teenagers to commit murders. He believes that this problem has been caused by the abandonment of traditional values, a disregard for common sense, and weak governance. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson rejected the accusations, calling PM Orbán’s words “outrageous lies” and accusing the Hungarian leader of undermining the rule of law in his own country.
