The Prime Minister’s political director shared the news on his social media page that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will soon travel to Washington, where he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Our goal is to build a sustainable system for the Hungarian economy, Hungary is heavily dependent on Russian oil and gas. Without these, energy prices would skyrocket and supply shortages could occur,” Balázs Orbán quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

Balázs Orbán emphasized that the Prime Minister will personally consult with the U.S. President. The issue of sanctions will also be raised at the meeting.

Since the U.S. sanctions will only come into effect later, there is currently no shortage of energy imports from Russia, according to Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who also stated at a recent press conference that humanity continues to live in an age of danger and faces serious security challenges, the most important of which are currently the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Another topic on the agenda will most likely be the Budapest Peace Summit. In response to a journalist’s question, Szijjártó said that during his talks in Washington last week with Marco Rubio, he learned that the United States had not given up on the possibility of holding a Peace Summit in Budapest. In his opinion, the only question is when the preparations will reach a stage where such a peace summit can produce tangible results and peace can return to Central Europe. On Monday, Viktor Orbán met with Pope Leo XIV as part of his ‘peace mission.’
