MA-HARD Kft., a subsidiary of the KÉSZ Group, has been awarded the contract to modernize the port of Fonyód (southern shore). As part of the nearly HUF 600 million (EUR 1.5 million) investment, the embankment will be completely renovated, the pier promenade and lighting will be modernized, and new community spaces, rest areas, green spaces, tree-lined avenues, and playgrounds will also be created.

As part of the 6,000-square-meter development, a new 35-meter-long harbor wall will be built with steel sheet piles, the company revealed. The pier promenade will be raised and equipped with new paving, lighting, and rest areas. The central square will be paved and equipped with pavilions to serve tourist and community functions.

The multi-phase work has already begun and will continue until the end of May 2026.

In addition, the pier head’s lookout and terrace will be completely renovated, and the port environment will be made more attractive to everyone with newly planted trees, modern community spaces, playgrounds, drinking fountains, and a bicycle station, they wrote.

According to a Facebook post by Barnabás Erdei, the mayor of the Lake Balaton town, the pier and the nearby pebble-covered area by the boat station have been closed off since September 3, 2025.

Starting November 3, the entire harbor will also be closed, and the pier will remain off-limits during this period.

“This development is another important milestone in BAHART‘s port development program, as we have already handed over the renovated Balatonfüred pier this year, and now it is Fonyód’s turn. Our goal is to create a modern, experience-oriented, yet nature-friendly port that is worthy of Lake Balaton,” he wrote.
