“Pécs is a town for families, not gender ideology!”
On Saturday, a rally was held in Pécs to demonstrate not only for family values but also “for normality, national values, and the defense of our identity.”
At the invitation of the organization CitizenGo, participants in the event, that was scheduled to take place in the hours before the 5th Pécs Pride, marched from the train station to Kossuth Square in the city center, where, after short speeches, they continued on their way toward Janus Pannonius Street and held a joint prayer in front of the cathedral.
Béla Teleki, campaign manager for CitizenGo Hungary, told journalists at the event that everyone was welcome, whether they had a family or were single, to show that there are still people who stand up for these values and to emphasize this in a silent, peaceful march.
He pointed out that thousands had already signed the online petition supporting the police. “We citizens must defend Hungary’s legal order.
We cannot expect politicians to find a solution to protect our children and families.
Instead, we must stand up ourselves against the LGBTQ dictatorship, which is now also spreading to the Hungarian provinces,” Teleki made clear.
The CitizenGo representative believes that activist groups such as the organizers of Pécs Pride “are creating an atmosphere that is spreading from the West, where fear is being spread and everyone is being intimidated.” “We are being forced to accept a gender ideology that is not ours, that we have nothing to do with, and that propagates unnatural, misanthropic ideas,” he said.
According to Teleki, this atmosphere can be felt everywhere, in families, even in parents’ decisions. “This is a great danger that many still cannot see and assess, even though no one can remain impartial on this issue, and that is why I am proud of today’s participants, of the conscious citizens who are signing the petition, getting involved and standing up for the truth,” he emphasized.
He noted:
Anyone who speaks out against this insane, inhuman ideology is considered an extremist,
a radical, even though it is precisely these foreign organizations that the city administration of Pécs is working with and allowing in here to infect the thinking of Hungarian families and the education of children. That is what is frightening, that is what makes dialogue impossible.”
Under the slogan “We will not bow to fear!”, the fifth Pécs Pride Parade took place on Saturday. The event, that was originally not approved, was held on the last day of the “Freedom of My Identity” human rights festival.
Attila Péterffy, mayor of Pécs, emphasized in his speech that he supports the banned Pride parade and opposes the restriction of civil liberties, as well as
culpable and unacceptable exclusion, because exclusion begins with bans, prison sentences, and threats,
and “we all know how it ends if we allow it.”
Nicu Ștefănuță, Romanian Vice President of the European Parliament, now a regular guest at relevant events in Hungary, said at the press conference before the demonstration that Europe stands for freedom, and that he had come to Pécs together with several other Members of the European Parliament to defend European values and freedom, which are also close to the hearts of Hungarians. At the same time, he sent a message to the Hungarian Government that nothing lasts forever and that politics also changes.
Belgian, British, French, Dutch, Irish, and German diplomats, whose countries have sexual minorities that face hostility from growing Muslim communities, came to the southern Hungarian city to support the self-proclaimed “freedom fighters.”
