The Hungarian President visited the development center of Axiom Space in Huston, United States, over the weekend. The company prepared and launched Hungarian research astronaut Tibor Kapu on his space mission in 2025.

During the visit, Tamás Sulyok met with the company’s founder and toured the facility, where engineers and scientists are working on next-generation space technologies.

Tibor Kapu’s mission has inspired many students to explore careers in science and engineering, he wrote on X.

The role played by research astronaut Tibor Kapu in sparking the interest of thousands of Hungarian children in the natural sciences and space technology will not be forgotten.”

He noted that, Tibor Kapu’s journey into space has given a new boost to science education in Hungary. “He gave Hungarian science education a new, pioneering impetus,” he wrote.

„Anyone who has followed the Hungarian space mission is familiar with the name Axiom Space, the leading space technology company that sent Tibor Kapu into space,” the President added.

After a meeting with the company’s founder, Kam Ghaffarian, at Axiom’s development center in Houston,

he got a glimpse into the “extremely complex and scientific work involved in designing space suits and a new space station.”

Fact

Axiom Space, widely recognized for its role in advancing commercial spaceflight, played a key role in training and launching Tibor Kapu, whose mission became a milestone for Hungary’s participation in modern space exploration.

The four-member crew of the Axiom-4 mission, including Tibor Kapu, spent 18 days on board the International Space Station (ISS) in the summer of 2025. The crew conducted over sixty experiments, of which about 25 were developed in Hungary. From Hungary’s perspective, the event was of historical significance, as the country sent a human into space for the second time after 45 years. In addition, Tibor Kapu was the first Hungarian to work on board the ISS since the Interkosmos program.
