In an interview on TV2 on Monday evening, Viktor Orbán sharply criticized the Budapest Pride parade held over the weekend, calling it “not pride, but prejudice.” The Prime Minister believes that the event does not represent the values of Hungarian society, but is rather a tool of political influence for Brussels.
When asked what he thought about what happened at Pride, the Hungarian prime minister replied that he was not there, therefore he could not report on it with the credibility of an eyewitness. “What the hell would I have been doing there?” he remarked. He stated that he is among those who do not consider the events to be a source of pride. “It is not pride, but prejudice,” he claimed.
In his opinion,
Pride is a political demonstration, “a prototype of Brussels-directed European politics.”
He believes that if Hungary did not have a government that protects national sovereignty, the same thing would happen with migration and Ukraine.
In 2022, 3.7 million Hungarians rejected what Pride promotes: pure gender propaganda. Anyhow, Brussels didn’t care – they ordered Pride anyway, and their allies in Budapest obeyed. This is the prototype. Migration, Ukraine – same script. Without a sovereign government, Hungary… pic.twitter.com/Mo97hZrVLt

The head of government recalled the 2022 referendum, which he said gave a clear answer from Hungarians on the issue of Pride and gender. “3.7 million people said no to what Pride stands for, to gender.” He noted that there has never been a referendum in which so many people voted in one direction. He added:
We decided this once and for all in 2022, and no demonstration or Pride parade will change my position.”
Viktor Orbán claimed that this weekend’s Pride showed how the system works: “Brussels decides, the puppet government here implements it, even those who sympathize with Ukraine may take to the streets, and that is it. And it is over for us. The country is finished. We have gender, we have migration, and we are neck-deep in war,” he said.
Ukraine’s accession to the EU
Speaking about Ukraine’s EU membership, the prime minister said that it would only bring military conflict. “The European Union is not a security organization, it has no military capabilities, and if we accept Ukraine into the union, we will immediately go to war with Russia,” he explained.
We understand the Ukrainians, we are helping them, but we cannot help them in a way that would destroy ourselves,”
he added, indicating that he took a very clear position at last week’s EU Summit: “The others were actually hurt by the fact that the Hungarian position is not impulsive or emotional, but cold and rational.”

NATO as a peacemaking alliance
Regarding the future of NATO, Viktor Orbán stated that the role of the alliance is to ensure peace. “NATO was not created to wage war, but to defend and create peace,” he underlined. He emphasized that the new US president has also “made it clear that he is a pacifist” and that “there can be no question of Ukraine’s NATO membership, nor can there be any question of NATO getting involved in the Ukrainian-Russian war.”
According to the prime minister, this creates a completely new situation within the alliance.
Finally, there is a place, NATO, where we have won,”
he summed up. He noted that Hungary had been previously isolated and in a losing position, but now it is on the same side as countries such as the United States, Türkiye, and Slovakia. In his opinion, the most important thing is to build a majority within NATO that believes that any conflict with Russia could lead to World War III.
Viktor Orbán said that NATO has not yet reached the point of openly stating that an agreement must be reached with Russia, but he believes this is inevitable: “Not only do we not want war, we also do not want an arms race, at least we Hungarians certainly do not.” NATO will therefore sooner or later have to “reach an agreement with Russia, which it regards as a potential enemy and threat,” because without this, there will be “no limit” to military spending. “We must also avoid an arms race, and this can only be achieved if we, the West, reach an agreement with the Russians. This has not yet happened, we are not there yet, and no one else is saying this except me,” he pointed out.
