Tibor Kapu and Tamás Sulyok
President Tamás Sulyok and research astronaut Tibor Kapu will welcome the New Year on public media channels after midnight on Wednesday.
Following the tradition that was missing last year, this time again Tamás Sulyok alongside with Tibor Kapu will express their best wishes for 2026 to Hungarian families, communities, and the entire nation, and draw attention to the power of togetherness.
Following the national anthem at midnight on Wednesday, the speeches by the President and Tibor Kapu will be broadcast on the public media channels M1, M2 Petőfi TV, M5, Duna, Duna World and on the radio stations Kossuth, Bartók, Dankó and Szakcsi.
In his Christmas message the President also spoke about how Hungary and the whole world are full of wonderful people, or more precisely, people whose actions and attitudes make them true role models.
It is encouraging to look up to all those who serve their fellow human beings and their communities with their talents and hard work, thereby contributing more and more to the prosperity and spiritual renewal of their communities and the nation, he noted.
Tamás Sulyok expressed his gratitude to “our soldiers and police officers, who protect our homeland and the rule of law, as well as to judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and the entire legal profession, who watch over the rule of law.”

He also noted that “we can look with great respect upon our scientists and researchers, those who serve in the fields of science and intellectual life, including the many award winners this year, such as our Nobel Prize-winning writer László Krasznahorkai, and many other award winners, as well as all those who work quietly, far from the applause of recognition.”
We can all be proud of Tibor Kapu’s impressive mission; we can rejoice in our new sporting successes; our artists, folk artists and tradition keepers create lasting value both within and beyond our borders, he said.
