L-R: FM Péter Szijjártó and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Palladino
During his nearly one-year tenure in Budapest, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Palladino has played an indispensable role in marking this year by a 180-degree change in Hungarian-American relations, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
The Minister stated that saying goodbye to the current head of the U.S. Embassy felt different than it did with his predecessor.
The golden age has begun: Washington no longer views us as enemies but as friends, the political sanctions imposed on us out of revenge have been lifted,”
Szijjártó wrote. “American investments in Hungary have reached record levels in the past year, the United States is contributing significantly to Hungary’s energy security, and our defense cooperation has entered a new dimension,” he added.
“We thank Robert Palladino for his nearly one year of service in Budapest, where we got to know him as a true friend of Hungary,” said Péter Szijjártó. “We regret that he is leaving, but we are confident that the new ambassador will continue his work.”
“We are sorry to see him go, but we will have another friend at the State Department in Washington!”, he concluded.
Levente Magyar, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Robert Palladino, and his deputy Caroline Savage discussed the progress made since the summit in Washington during a farewell visit to the Ministry. The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires wrote on X about the meeting: “Our partnership is moving forward with purpose—energy security, investment, and defense—built on the friendship and shared values of our two nations.”
