BMW is already preparing for the opening ceremony in its Debrecen factory (eastern Hungary), when the start button will be pressed and series production of the Neue Klasse will begin, Világgazdaság reports.
In response to an inquiry from the business news portal, Hans Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW’s Debrecen plant, said that series production is imminent. Although preliminary information suggested that series production would start at the end of the year, Világgazdaság has learnt that
it could start at the end of September 2025.
As reported by Hungary Today in November last year, the first test production vehicles of the all-electric Neue Klasse X model have already been assembled at the BMW Group’s Debrecen plant. This was a milestone for the plant, as it marked the start of the final preparatory phase of the beginning of series production. The Debrecen plant is already receiving materials and parts on a daily basis, and test vehicles have been since rolling off the production line.
The CEO also said that their close relationship with the University of Debrecen is now particularly important, as they need highly qualified young people for both for the production and the development of the new model.
The University of Debrecen has been preparing to serve BMW for several years:
the new building of its Faculty of Technology, part of a 12 billion forints (30 million euros) development package, is primarily aimed at meeting BMW’s workforce needs, and is accompanied by a new equipment park worth several hundred million forints.
While the university is expected to produce highly qualified graduates, the three automotive training schools of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC) are expected to produce highly skilled workers. Young people will also be trained in BMW’s own Learning Center in Debrecen, but the DSZC itself will also play its part in providing state-of-the-art practical training facilities. The DSZC’s new Automotive Innovation Center, built at a cost of 100 million forints (250,400 euros) to train five hundred students, was inaugurated last Friday.
