‘Snow Animals’ Take Over the Budakeszi Wildlife Park

Last Sunday, the grounds surrounding Budakeszi Wildlife Park were transformed into a creative open-air winter workshop. Numerous families and nature lovers responded to the call to take part in the big snowman and ‘snow animal’ building competition.

Participation was free for all visitors, as the competition took place in the open space right next to the wildlife park. Participants could register for various main and subcategories to give free rein to their imagination with the freshly fallen snow.

The jury placed particular emphasis on two criteria in their evaluation.

They were looking for the “cutest” and “funniest” creations.

Attractive grand prizes in the form of family season tickets for the wildlife park served as an incentive.

However, it was not just a panel of experts that decided on the winners; the visitors themselves were also part of the process. At the registration desk, each guest received a wooden spatula that served as a ballot.

By sticking the spatula into the snow next to their personal favorite artwork, the audience collectively decided on the audience award.

In the spirit of sustainability and nature conservation, the organizers had also asked that only natural and biodegradable materials be used to decorate the sculptures.

To make good use of the time until the award ceremony at noon, the wildlife park offered an exciting accompanying program. In the buffet area, visitors could listen to a lecture on the fascinating survival strategies of the local wildlife against the winter cold while enjoying a hot drink.

Fact

Located only about 20 minutes from downtown Budapest, Budakeszi Wildlife Park presents over 50 animal species from the Carpathian Basin and has long since developed into a versatile center for family recreation.

In recent years, massive investments have been made in infrastructure and species diversity. Today, visitors can observe rare animal species such as sika deer, barbary sheep, aurochs, and Przewalski’s horses in modernized enclosures. The programs range from feeding demonstrations and a “small animal school” to interactive nature trails and themed guided tours.

The park offers unique experiences, especially for young explorers. The “Makk Kuckó” themed children’s playground, which opened in 2015, depicts the forest as a microcosm, with unique play equipment imparting knowledge in a playful way. Thanks to barrier-free facilities, special offers for parents with small children—such as free rental of all-terrain strollers—and a strong focus on environmental education, Budakeszi Wildlife Park is an ideal destination for families.
