Based on the votes of nature lovers, Somoskő Excursion Center was named Tourist House of the Year 2025.
The winning accommodation in Nógrád County, northern Hungary, was announced on site on Monday. Mirkó Petényi, executive director of the Active Hungary Development Center, said at the ceremony that they have supported the renovation of more than 110 tourist houses in recent years.
He said that the Somoskő Excursion Center is located in a natural environment and provides such high-quality services that it can be held up as an example of what a modern tourist house should be like.
The title is good feedback that Ipoly Erdő Zrt. is on the right track,”
he said.
He explained that the social function of the forest has changed a lot in recent years, and that the Active Hungary Development Center’s task is to promote nature tourism.

Somoskő is located in northern Hungary, close to the Slovakian border, near a town named Salgótarján.

The village is famous for its medieval fortress called Somoskő Castle, which is now partly located in Slovakia due to border changes after World War I. The lower part of the hill and the village are on the Hungarian side, while the castle itself is located across the border, near the Slovak village of Šiatorská Bukovinka.
