In this year’s summer season, students can earn hourly wages of up to EUR 7–10 gross (HUF 3,000–4,000), especially interns working in IT, engineering, or finance.
During summertime, the average hourly wage for student workers is around EUR 5 (HUF 2,000) gross, but based on the latest data from the Mind-Diák Cooperative, hourly wages exceeding EUR 7 (HUF 3,000) are available in the best-paid positions. According to the cooperative, the minimum wage continues to be aligned with the current minimum hourly wage, which is EUR 4.13 (HUF 1,672) gross, and EUR 5 (HUF 2,000) for jobs requiring secondary education and a high school diploma. Students working in light physical or administrative jobs can generally expect hourly wages of between EUR 4.20–4.70 (HUF 1,700– 1,900).
Internships continue to be among the best-paid opportunities: the hourly wage for young people under 25 in these jobs can be between EUR 5–6 (HUF 2,000 – 2,500) gross, which is considered net income in its entirety thanks to the personal income tax exemption (often called the “under-25 tax exemption” ). Within this, hourly rates of EUR 5–7 (HUF 2,000–3,000) are typical in the engineering and financial sectors, while wages of EUR 7– 10 or more (HUF 3,000–4,000) are not uncommon in the IT sector, especially for specialized project tasks.

This summer season, retail, tourism, and hospitality are once again the most popular areas for student work,
reports Világgazdaság.
In the summer, there are regular capacity shortages in the agricultural, food, manufacturing, and logistics sectors, but simplified employment is becoming less and less of a flexible solution. From February 1, the public charges for seasonal and casual work have increased significantly, and from July, further restrictions will come into force, limiting the number of days that can be worked under simplified employment.
Under current legislation an employee can work a maximum of 120 days per year in this form. In contrast, employment through student cooperatives is not subject to time limits or headcount restrictions, and any number of student employees can be involved in the work, regardless of the size of the company, the announcement noted. The Mind-Diák Cooperative expects that the changes will further increase companies’ interest in student cooperative employment.
