Think You Have an Expensive Oven? How About One for EUR 20 Million?

An HUF 8 billion (EUR 20 million) furnace, which requires much less energy than older models, was put into operation in Győr. Intersnack Hungary, the manufacturer of Chio products, is also continuing to expand its solar park this year.

Intersnack Hungary, the manufacturer of Chio products, has started producing a new, potato-based snack at its plant in Győr (near the Austrian border). The oven chips production line cost HUF 8 billion (EUR 20 million), and it will serve almost all of Europe with its chips. The equipment was launched jointly by Zsolt Papp, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, and CEO Dénes Lukács.

Lukács pointed out at that an important feature of oven chips is that they are not fried in oil, but in an oven, hence their fat content is 70% lower than that of traditional chips. The new production line will produce 10 tons of chips a day. According to the managing director,

the Győr plant will produce 2,300 tons of oven chips this year, of which around 2 million bags will be sold on the Hungarian market.

Dénes Lukács also said that the company is planning on implementing other sustainability investments. A solar farm has been installed on the factory site in 2022 and last year it already generated 17% of the electricity used in production. This year, the capacity of the solar park will be increased by 60%, so that the share of electricity generated by the plant will be 25%.

Intersnack Hungary is also planning a cooperation program with local schools and the universities of Veszprém and Győr. Dénes Lukács also noted that

the food industry is a strategic sector for a reason, and it is not affected by rapidly changing global trends, unlike the car industry.

Intersnack Hungary proves this statement right as they have been a predictable and reliable employer and partner for 33 years. In his speech, Zsolt Papp, President of the NAK, stressed that continuous development is one of the basic conditions for competitiveness. For this reason, investments that increase the economic strength of a given region and expand the labor market are of particular importance for the Hungarian agricultural and food economy.

The company emphasized in its statement that the significance of Intersnack, the producer of Chio products, in the agricultural economy of Győr-Sopron-Moson County and Little Hungarian Plain will further increase following the handover of the tenth production line. The company currently has contracts with 552 Hungarian suppliers and partners. The company purchases nearly 15,000 tons of wheat for its products from 60 Hungarian farmers in the region every year.
