Tímea Babos Claims Pan Pacific Open Doubles Title in Tokyo

Tímea Babos and Luisa Stefani, who have already secured their place in the WTA Finals, captured the women’s doubles title at the prestigious Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo on Sunday.

At the hard court tennis tournament in Japan, with total prize money of one million dollars, the fourth-seeded Hungarian-Brazilian duo defeated the No. 3 seeds, Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic, in a 72-minute final.

Babos and Stefani dominated early, winning the first five games in a row to take the first set 6-1. The second set proved more competitive, with both teams holding serve tightly before the champions edged out the tiebreak: after 2-2, the Hungarian-Brazilian duo won three games in a row and did not let victory slip from their grasp, winning the tournament 6-1, 6-4.

Babos celebrated her 29th tournament victory in doubles, her fourth this year alongside Stefani after Linz, Strasbourg, and Sao Paulo.

This success must have meant a lot to the team, especially after their disappointment in September when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the US Open. This latest victory should give them confidence for the season’s final stretch.

The duo will now turn their attention to WTA Finals, where they will compete among the world’s top eight doubles teams for the year-end championship title.

In singles, Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic won her tenth tournament title. The experienced player defeated Czech Linda Noskova 6-2, 6-3 in less than an hour and a half.
