During the week-long fishing competition, teams of 3–4 anglers will line the entire shoreline of Lake Balaton, competing from the weekend for the biggest carp.
A record number of countries will be represented at the 11th International Balaton Carp Cup (IBCC), which begins on April 12. This year, top anglers from 28 countries – from Vietnam to Kazakhstan, from England to Norway, and even South Africa – will join the challenge of catching carp and releasing them back into the “Hungarian sea” after a quick photo.
Every carp over 10 kg counts toward the final score, and the teams catching the largest common and mirror carp will also receive special awards.
Fishing fans are already eager to see if the previous lake record of 35.6 kg will be broken.
“A competition can only be truly great if it manages to evolve year after year. That is why we continuously work on fine-tuning the rules, improving the organization, and ensuring fair and equal conditions for all participants – all while staying true to our traditions. That is why 300 teams from 28 countries have chosen to come to Lake Balaton again this year, to experience something only the IBCC can offer.
It is an honor that die-hard anglers travel thousands of kilometers from places like Denmark, South Africa, New Zealand, and Kazakhstan to be here,”
said Radu Morar, the founder of the competition and owner of The Fishing&Hunting Channel.
This year’s 24/7 event will also have an international ambassador: three-time world champion Rob Hughes, who will report live from the scene. “This is the biggest carp fishing event in the world, and this year promises to be especially exciting.
Hungary is truly a stunning country, and Lake Balaton is a fantastic venue full of incredible fish. Judging by the quality of the registered anglers, I’m sure we will see some amazing results,”
said the world champion.
The competition kicks off with an official opening ceremony on April 12 and concludes with an awards ceremony on April 19. The event can be followed on The Fishing&Hunting Channel and at https://ibcc.hu, where, for the first time, 24/7 webcams will provide live coverage of the action.
