Transylvanian Hungarians Urged to Shape Future in Romanian Elections, Says Secretary of State

Lőrinc Nacsa, Secretary of State for National Policy, recently visited Transylvania to engage with Hungarian communities ahead of Romania’s parliamentary elections on December 1. During his tour, the politician emphasized the importance of unity within the Hungarian community in Transylvania and encouraged participation in the elections to secure political influence and represent their interests.

The Secretary of State highlighted the significance of collaboration among Hungarian political parties in the region, noting that “Hungarian unity in Transylvania is key to having a strong voice in Romanian politics.” He stressed that when the Hungarian community has a strong presence in parliament, it can improve Hungarian-Romanian relations and enhance the quality of life for Hungarians in the region.

Lőrinc Nacsa also reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to supporting Hungarian communities abroad, particularly by focusing on youth, families, and education.

The goal of national policy cannot be anything other than to help communities, national survival, and the strengthening of Hungarian communities,” he said.

Mr. Nacsa pointed to initiatives like educational support for Hungarian youth and maternity allowance programs as examples of Hungary’s dedication to its diaspora.

In his visit, the Secretary of State encouraged Hungarians to participate in the upcoming elections, stressing that their involvement would send a strong message against anti-Hungarian sentiment.

Any Hungarian, wherever they live, can count on us,” he added.

As Hungary continues its efforts to support Hungarian communities abroad, Lőrinc Nacsa’s visit underscores the importance of a united and influential Hungarian voice in Transylvania and the broader region. The government remains committed to preserving and strengthening national identity and rights within Romania.
