Two More Skyfox Aircraft Strengthen Combat Training Capabilities

Two new L-39 Skyfox multi-role combat training aircraft arrived at the Hungarian Defense Forces’ 101st Air Wing on September 12. These jets play an important role in pilot training, as they help students at the National University of Public Service receive training that meets 21st-century expectations, Honvedelem.hu reports.

“The Skyfox is a very modern type, and its bright colors show that our fleet has been expanded with training aircraft. We still have a long way to go, as five aircraft have already arrived, and the training system and instructor training are still in progress. The Skyfox model represents a major step forward for the brigade, as it expands our capabilities,” said Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Langó, deputy commander of the Hungarian Defense Forces’ 101st Air Brigade, about the newly arrived aircraft.

Major Sándor Csák, deputy commander of the combat training squadron, said that in line with 21st-century expectations, all of the Skyfox’s instruments have LCD displays, which facilitates both teaching and learning.

It looks similar to its predecessor from the outside, but it represents a completely different category of training aircraft. With the help of the Skyfox, a pilot candidate can learn to respond to all modern challenges and situations,”

he explained.

One of the main features of the aircraft is that, compared to its predecessor, the wing structure, or frame, has been made lighter, which ensures better maneuverability and greater stability. To reduce air resistance, the fuel tanks have been mounted in the wing tips, the cockpit has been made safer, and the rear pilot seat has been raised for better visibility.
