Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s “victory plan” is the shortest route to the outbreak of World War III, and therefore Hungary does not support it, the Prime Minister’s political director said in Brussels on Thursday.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the EU summit, Balázs Orbán stressed that the plan presented is about escalating the war and involving NATO countries in the conflict, which is totally unacceptable to Hungary.
The European Union and all member states should instead pursue a peace strategy that focuses on the use of diplomatic means, not on sending weapons and on further escalation,”
he said.

In the context of the EU summit’s debate on migration, Balázs Orbán said that more and more people are talking about what Hungary has been saying for years, that there is no other way to stop illegal migration than “not letting them into the territory of the European Union.” He added that EU law does not currently allow for the processing of immigration applications outside the EU, and that the country that has been doing so since 2015 has been condemned and faces the biggest fine in EU history.

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also expressed his concerns in Budapest yesterday.
Hungary maintains its position that Ukraine’s accession to NATO would be beyond the red line, as it would result in the outbreak of a third world war,”
the minister said.
In response to questions from MPs, the politician told a hearing of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee that Ukraine’s membership in NATO would cross the red line. The country is at war and joining would lead to a direct confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance, he argued.
I think it is an outrage, a humiliation for Ukraine, that some allies are talking to Ukrainians about being a member of NATO, but when we take part in a closed-door meeting, it becomes clear that everybody, with very few exceptions, is talking about why that is not possible,”
he underlined.
“We are also not in favor of increasing the review period of the sanctions measure against the Central Bank of Russia from six months to three years. The reason why we do not support it is because it means that there are people here in Europe who think that there will definitely be a war for another three years,” he warned. He also noted that last year Russia was the main supplier of uranium to the United States, while Hungary is accused of being pro-Russian because of the Paks expansion project, which is also being carried out by American, German, French and Austrian subcontractors working alongside Russia’s Rosatom.
