Unique Opportunity to Discover the Cultural and Architectural Heritage of Őrség

The picturesque Őrség region in western Hungary invites visitors for a unique cultural experience from May 23 to 25. As part of the “Kandela” event series, traditional barns in Szalafő, Pityerszer and Őriszentpéter will open their doors to visitors.
The program of tours, light installations and lectures is intended to show how these rural buildings can become lively community spaces and homes for natural culture, reports Magyar Nemzet. The buildings of the Őrség Folk Monument Complex in the Pityerszer Skanzen are preserved from the 1700s.
The whitewashed houses and old utensils of the museum village give an idea of how the people of Őrség once lived.

The program starts on May 23 at the Barn Theater and Mill Visitor Center in Őriszentpéter. In the afternoon, the travelling exhibition of “PajtaKult” will open, followed by a conference on barns with new functions.
In the evening, in Szalafő and Pityerszer, special light installations will illuminate the buildings of the Skanzen, adding a new dimension to the traditional village landscape.

On May 24, in the morning, the program will take visitors to the “Hang-szer” barn in Lendvajakabfa and then to the barn in Keserűszer. In the afternoon, the Culture Court and Barn will be opened to visitors in Dozmat, followed by a round table discussion in Őriszentpéter, with the participation of architect Zoltán Tóth, cellist Zoltán Rácz and Dániel Kovács from Őrség National Park. In the evening, colorful light installations will be presented again in Szalafő and Pityerszer.
On May 25, participants can listen to architect Zoltán Tóth’s presentation in Felsőmarác, and in the afternoon, the event concludes with the inauguration of the “Lajtorjás” barn in Őriszentpéter, accompanied by the Rácz Quartet.
