This year’s tourism fair season kicks off on January 15, when the Ferien-Messe, the largest tourism and leisure trade fair in our region, opens its doors in Vienna. The exhibition will feature around 430 exhibitors from five continents.
Organized by VisitBalaton365 (VB365) destination management, this year’s Ferien-Messe will feature a concentrated presentation of Lake Balaton.
Thanks to the extensive cooperation between Visit Hungary, VB365 and the Hévíz Tourism Association, Hungary will have an unprecedented presence at the trade fair.
Building on this collaboration and its experiences in the Austrian market last year, VB365 is preparing special B2B and B2C activities to showcase Lake Balaton as a diverse, year-round destination offering active and cultural experiences.
The Lake Balaton presentation will be accompanied by a wide-ranging media campaign: in Vienna and Lower Austria, timed to coincide with the fair, Reise Magazin, published in 300,000-copies, will draw attention to the Lake Balaton co-exhibitors and their offers on a specially edited page. The presentation to the general public will be reinforced by editorial recommendations in Heute, Austria’s largest daily newspaper.
Elite Tours, one of Vienna’s leading travel agencies, is preparing a special presentation on Lake Balaton in the Silent Cinema event hall of the fair, where it will present its own catalog of active, health, and cultural tourism offers at Lake Balaton to interested parties and the agency’s regular customers.
The presentations will be accompanied by prize games at the Elite Tours stand over the four days, where the focus will also be on the Lake Balaton region. The accompanying events also provide an excellent opportunity to launch the cycling tourism offers developed over the past year in the strategic partnership between VB365 and Elite Tours, and to present and promote the direct bus shuttle service from Vienna to Hévíz (western Hungary by Lake Balaton) and related offers.
During the busiest times of the fair – Friday and Saturday afternoons – VB365’s co-exhibitors will draw attention to what Lake Balaton has to offer with special productions and quizzes on the Reise Arena’s main stage.
Thanks to the offers of Balatontourist, Mövenpick Balaland Resort and Sirius Hotel, “four-season Lake Balaton” will also be presented from the perspective of family experiences.
The successful appearance is further enhanced by the fact that, thanks to Visit Hungary, Hungary will once again have its own stand at the fair. The stands of Visit Hungary and VB365 together form a distinctive “Hungarian island” in the middle of the fair, making the Lake Balaton and other domestic offers unmissable in every respect.
The Hévíz tourist organization will also be present as a co-exhibitor of Visit Hungary with numerous service providers, thus giving the healing offerings of Lake Balaton a prominent presence. This further strengthens the pillar of health tourism at Lake Balaton in the Austrian market, which ensures stable demand in the long term.
This year’s participation in the fair reinforces the trend that Hungary continues to be a popular destination among Austrian travelers due to its excellent value for money, geographical proximity, and constantly renewing tourism offerings.
In addition to classic summer holidays, cultural tourism, cycling, and gastronomic tourism are becoming increasingly attractive. The Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture 2023 project year has also contributed significantly to the boom in cultural tourism. Based on its presence at the fair, VB365 is positioning the Balaton region in Austria as a strong four-season tourism and cultural brand, with the Taste Balaton spring gastronomic event series as a new addition.
The Vienna Drive car exhibition will also be held at the same venue during the Ferien-Messe, which is also expected to attract significant public and professional interest. The organizers are expecting more than 70,000 visitors over the four days.
