Viktor Orbán Meets Former Polish Justice Minister, Victim of Political Persecution

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has come out in support of the Polish right wing after meeting with Zbigniew Ziobro, the former Polish Minister of Justice, in Budapest.

“Justice for Poland! The Polish right wing won a huge victory in the presidential election, and since then, the Brussels-friendly Polish government has launched a political witch hunt against them,” wrote Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on his Facebook page on Thursday after meeting with former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro in Budapest.

Viktor Orbán said that the Polish government wants to arrest the former minister.

And all this in the heart of Europe. Meanwhile, Brussels remains silent. What a state of affairs!”

said the head of government.

He captioned the photo attached to the post: two good friends, Hungary and Poland.

Zbigniew Ziobro took part in a panel discussion on Monday organized on the occasion of the Budapest screening of the film “Taking Over.” In a post on X, the former Justice Minister, who, like his deputy Marcin Romanowski, has been the victim of a politically motivated vendetta, wrote:

We showed our Hungarian friends what the Tusk government really is – how it violates the law and the constitution,”

how it has illegally taken over the public media and turned it into its propaganda tool, and how it has criminally infiltrated the public prosecutor’s office and the judiciary in order to influence judgments.”

Observers assume that Ziobro, who is seriously ill, could be granted political asylum in Hungary, as was Romanowski. In any case, Donald Tusk has made the Budapest government’s decision easier. In his usual cynical style, the Warsaw head of government laconically stated: “Either in prison or in Budapest.”

This is not the first time that the prime minister has railed against the Polish government. “The Polish government has been captivated by war psychosis,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote on Facebook last Wednesday in response to a post by his political director, Balázs Orbán. According to the head of government, there are plans to throw the thousand-year-old Hungarian-Polish friendship overboard. He added that they are supporting the destruction of the Druzhba oil pipeline as part of a sabotage operation, as was the case with the Nord Stream pipeline. This would cause serious damage to the wallets of Hungarian families, Viktor Orbán emphasized, describing the situation as “completely crazy.”

We remain committed to the friendship between our peoples. God bless Poland!”

Balázs Orbán described it as outrageous on his Facebook page that the Polish foreign minister was hoping that the Ukrainians would be able to blow up the Druzhba oil pipeline, which secures Hungary’s energy supply. He described this as the darkest abyss of war psychosis.
