Viktor Orbán Reportedly Visits Donald Trump in Florida after NATO Summit

Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán (L) with Donald Trump in Florida on March 8, 2024

Viktor Orbán left Washington for Florida on Thursday, after the NATO summit, to meet former US President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported.

As reported by Hungary Today, last week, the Hungarian Prime Minister traveled first to Kyiv, then met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, and finally held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on the war in Ukraine and how to achieve peace. According to Bloomberg, Viktor Orbán’s trip to Florida heightens concerns that he could act as a mediator between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. The Republican presidential candidate has repeatedly said that if elected, he could convince Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine and release US prisoners in Russia.

Bloomberg‘s source said, however, the visit would be purely informal. As they write,

the former US President has not asked the Hungarian prime minister to lay the groundwork for any Ukrainian-Russian peace agreement or efforts.

Index asked the Prime Minister’s press office about the meeting on Thursday, but has not yet received a reply. So far, Donald Trump’s campaign spokespersons have not responded to the news. If the press reports are true, this will be the fourth time the Hungarian prime minister has met Donald Trump, the news site reminds. The last time the former US President met the Hungarian Prime Minister was on March 8 at at Mr. Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
