Winter’s Biggest Running Event Opens the 2026 Season in Budapest

On Sunday, Budapest Sport Office (Budapest Sportiroda – BSI) will kick off its competition calendar with the Powerade Zúzmara Half Marathon, promoted as the largest winter running event, which has already attracted nearly 4,000 advance registrations.

Participants in the 10th anniversary running festival will start from the Budakalász Sports Hall, continue along the Danube from the Lake of Omszk, and cross one of the country’s most beautiful bridges, the Megyeri Bridge.

This is a real winter challenge, there may be snowfall, there may be sub-zero temperatures, but our experience shows that this is exactly the kind of special experience runners are looking for,”

said Árpád Kocsis, managing director of BSI, who noted that this winter is the coldest and snowiest in the ten-year history of the event.

Based on preliminary data, runners from 490 towns and villages are expected to travel to Budakalász for Sunday’s event. Women account for 49 percent of all participants and even outnumber men in the 3.4- and 10-kilometer races. Organizers will offer energy replenishment at three refreshment stations, and all finishers will receive a unique commemorative medal.

The 10th anniversary Powerade Zúzmara Half Marathon will start at 9 a.m. with the 3.4 km race, followed by the 21.1 km race at 10 a.m. and the 10 km race at 1:45 p.m.
