Here is what to know about the NBA title oddsboard:
The League Leaders: The Thunder’s 49-15 record is the best in the league. They are second in the NBA in defense, allowing 107.7 points per game, while scoring 118.8 per game, fifth in the league. Detroit has the second-best record in the league, but the sixth-best odds to win it all. It is third in point differential (7.7), and like OKC, winning with defense, allowing 109.5 points per game (fourth).
Here Comes Boston: Don’t look now, but Boston is getting back (arguably) its best player. News dropped Thursday that Jayson Tatum will likely return to the court on Friday, less than 10 months out from Achilles surgery. With the news, the Celtics moved from +900 to +800 to win the title. Consider this: Boston has the second-best record in the East and fourth-best record overall, without Tatum. It is the best defensive team in the NBA, allowing 107.1 points per game, and its other star, Jaylen Brown, is averaging 28.9 points per game. Furthermore, although the Celtics are 1-3 against the best team in the East in Detroit, those three losses have come by a combined 14 points. Tatum has averaged at least 26 points per game in each of the past five seasons.
