2025 will be the Hungarian-Turkish Year of Innovation, that will also touch upon artificial intelligence, digitalization and the interconnection of universities and innovation systems, Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation.
Almost 2,000 people attended the closing event of the Turkish-Hungarian cultural year in Ankara on Thursday. The minister told MTI at the closing event that they planned 100-100 events in both countries for the cultural year, but eventually in Turkey 170 events were held in 16 cities with one and a half million visitors, meaning it was a great success.
Balázs Hankó said that based on this, he and Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy agreed to continue Hungarian-Turkish cultural cooperation. Cultural programs and exhibitions will be organized, and places with Hungarian links in Türkiye will be made more attractive.
We have laid the foundations for a more intensive Hungarian-Turkish cultural cooperation based on last year,”
he stressed.
It was agreed with Turkish Minister of Innovation and Technology Fatih Kacir that 2025 will be the Hungarian-Turkish Year of Innovation, in which 24 projects will be launched. These will include artificial intelligence, digitalization, linking universities and innovation systems, the importance of agriculture, and will focus on defense policy and defense innovation issues. Balázs Hankó added that during the meeting he presented how the Hungarian innovation system has been revamped over the past few years.
He discussed with Minister of Family Affairs Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş that
2025 will be the Year of Families in Türkiye, and Hungary will play a major role in this.
Balázs Hankó noted that the Turkish minister would like to learn about the good practices that “have been successfully implemented for families in Hungary despite the headwinds in Brussels.”
The Hungarian politician and the rector of the University of Ankara reviewed the relations between the University and Hungarian universities, and agreed to launch joint graduate courses in certain fields. These will include Hungarian studies, engineering, political science and pharmacy, the minister said, adding that they also discussed several forms of support related to education, history and culture, and plans for the Hungarian Studies Department include the introduction of the Pannonia scholarship program.
