Jane Fonda Recalls Rescuing Infant Grandson From Bear

Jane Fonda just recalled an epic grandma moment from years ago — rescuing her infant grandson from a bear inside her New Mexico home.

During an appearance on Netflix’s Skip Intro podcast on Friday, February 28, Fonda’s son, Troy O’Donovan Garity, recalled a rather scary and dangerous encounter that took place years ago while the Grace & Frankie alum was babysitting her grandson, Malcolm, now 25. Garity, 51, shared with host Krista Smith that Fonda, 87, once “pushed a bear out of her bedroom” after the wild animal broke into her home in the middle of the night.

The 9 to 5 actress was initially alerted to something unusual by a noise. When she left her bedroom to investigate, that’s when she realized what was in her house. “When she came back in, the screen door was dismantled and there was a bear in the bedroom, sniffing over the crib,” Garity said.

When asked how she handled the situation, Fonda hilariously roared into the microphone, imitating her initial move at the time. The Coming Home star remembered, “I had just learned what to do if you’re close to a bear, and that was it.” She mentioned how she threw her hands in the air to appear bigger, and opened her bathrobe as part of her bear survival training. Her tactic worked, as the bear left the room – but not before it left her with a “parting gift” of urine on the rug.

As for pushing the creature out of her home, that’s when Fonda got hands on. “It walked back to the door and sat down, and I did, I pushed it out, yeah,” she confessed.

Fans loved hearing the anecdote from the former fitness guru, and left their comments on a video of the clip which was posted to Instagram.

“Oh Jane. You are truly a legend in every way 🙌,” one fan commented, while another said, “Don’t mess with Jane Fonda bear 🐻.”

A third fan noted, “the bear urinated on the rug 😔” had me dying.”

“I believe it! And the bear peed his pants 😂,” another quipped.

Fonda is mother to two biological children: Vanessa Vadim, 56, whom she shares with ex-husband Roger Vadim, and Garity, whom she shares with ex-husband Tom Hayden.
