Our Astronauts Take Center Stage at Space-Comm Expo in London

Hungarian space research will be presented with its own stand and presentations at Europe’s most prestigious space technology exhibition, Space-Comm Expo in London, on March 4 and 5.

The HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network will have its own stand at the professional forum, and the HUNOR space program will be represented by research astronauts Tibor Kapu and Gyula Cserényi, who visitors can meet in person.

As part of the professional program, Tibor Kapu will give a presentation on Hungarian experiments conducted on board the International Space Station (ISS). A panel discussion entitled “Proven in Orbit: How Human Spaceflight Experience Drives Innovation, Growth and Partnership” will also take place, examining the innovative and economic impact of human spaceflight experience.

In addition to Tibor Kapu, Tim Peake, strategic advisor at Axiom Space and the first British ESA astronaut to visit the ISS, will also take part in the discussion.

The discussion on the innovative and economic impact of human spaceflight will be moderated by Ferenc Kumin, Hungary’s ambassador to London. Zsolt Szalay, HUN-REN’s vice president for science and technology, will also take part in the panel discussion.

Researchers from four institutions belonging to the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network will also present their comprehensive space research portfolio at the Hungarian exhibition stand. The research institutions of the HUN-REN network are key players in numerous European and international programs, including the missions and developments of the European Space Agency. Research covers small satellite development and operation, the development of on-board instruments, interplanetary missions, Earth observation, materials science, and the study of space weather and space radiation.

Space-Comm Expo is an ideal meeting point for researchers, industry players, policy makers, and investors, thus offering a unique opportunity to establish new international partnerships, showcase the results of Hungarian space research, and strengthen Hungary’s position,

they write.

The announcement emphasizes that Hungary’s prominent participation makes it clear that Hungary and HUN-REN are prepared to play an active role in shaping the future of space research and the space industry.
