Hussar Weekend and Transylvanian Culinary Delights Await Visitors in Szentendre

The Skanzen is reopening its doors: in March, visitors can explore Hungary’s largest open-air museum twice with a discounted hiking map. In addition, the season opening program includes the Hussar Weekend and the Taste of Transylvania festival.

This year’s spring season begins on the weekend of March 6-7. Although the houses in the open-air museum cannot be entered at this time, the grounds of the Duna-Ipoly National Park are ideal for walking and hiking. Visitors can discover hidden paths in the open-air museum and experience the special magic of the beautiful natural landscape, according to the museum’s announcement.

Two playgrounds, the bird trail, and the stream bank await children. The traffic-free hiking trails offer an excellent opportunity for families with toddlers, cyclists, and dog owners to relax in the fresh air. If you get hungry during your walk, you can refuel with sweet and savory baked goods and fresh bread at the open-air museum’s bakery.

During the subsequent Hussar Weekend, hussars in historical uniforms, spectacular performances, and interactive programs will bring the spirit of 1848 back to life.

Craft activities and playful exercises await the children, while adults can experience the atmosphere of the national holiday up close. Remembering together and reviving traditions create a special atmosphere in the historic surroundings of the open-air museum, according to the announcement.

From March 27 to 29, the Taste of Transylvania – Szentendre 2026 festival will take place at the Skanzen.

The three-day gastronomic event will feature top chefs, restaurants, and wineries from Transylvania, Romania, and Hungary, while gastronomic cultural programs, large concerts, film screenings, and book presentations will enrich the program, according to the announcement.

Further information on the programs can be found on the museum’s website.
