Kim Kardashian Shares Video of $30K Robot From Elon Musk’s Company
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Kim Kardashian just introduced her fans to an exciting “new friend.”
In a video shared to her Instagram Story on Monday, November 18, Kardashian, 44, shared Tesla’s latest innovation, the Optimus Bot, with her followers. The series of clips show the reality star interacting with the humanoid robot, which performed several tasks with impressive precision.
In a caption overlaid on the video, Kardashian wrote, “meet my new friend,” as she introduced the bot and demonstrated some of its abilities, which included completing the heart hands symbol with her and showing off some dance moves. The robot even mimicked jogging after Kardashian asked it what it would like to do next – a move it repeated several times – to which the SKIMS founder chuckled, “that running move gets me.”

Later in the video, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum gave a peek at a gold version of the robot, mentioning only how one of the special edition version exists. Kardashian also shared a look at Tesla’s new Cyber Cab – a sedan version of their Cyber Truck – only this car can drive itself.
Kardashian isn’t the only celebrity to interact with the futuristic cyborg. The Optimus Bot made its debut during Tesla’s “We, Robot” event in October, where the robots interacted with attendees such as rapper 2 Chainz – though it was later revealed that the robot was being controlled remotely by a Tesla employee.

The Optimus Bot has previously come under scrutiny as fans began comparing its design to the robots seen in the 2004 film I, Robot starring Will Smith. The resemblance sparked some controversy, with film’s director, Alex Proyas, who called out Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, and his design choices on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Hey Elon [Musk], can I have my designs back please?” he wrote, referencing the similarities between the Optimus Bot and his movie’s robots.
Musk, 43, claimed that this technology would be “the biggest product ever — of any kind,” according to Fortune, and that the bots would be priced somewhere between $20 and $30K. Despite that, it’s unclear if Kardashian purchased the Optimus Bot herself or received it as a gift.
