Mavericks’ Anthony Davis Exits Game With Concerning Injury

The Dallas Mavericks may have been dealt some challenging circumstances early in their season, as star player Anthony Davis left with what could be a devastating injury. The Mavs’ big man exited Wednesday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers in the second half.

Davis was on the court when his team called a timeout. While players walked over to the bench and the coaches onto the court, Davis sat down against the side digital display on the sidelines. As he hunched over, he began checking on his Achilles. Several teammates walked nearby to check on him.

According to an Underdog NBA update, Davis didn’t return to the team’s home game against Indiana due to his injury situation. Dwight Powell started the second half to replace the Mavericks’ star.

As of this writing, it’s unclear how severe his injury might be, but Davis didn’t require assistance to leave the court or go to the locker room.

According to Dallas Mavs reporter Noah Weber, Davis “was slow to get back up the court” following one of Dallas’ offensive possessions. Weber indicated Davis appeared to be “grabbing the back of his left leg/heel.”

Members of Dallas’ training staff walked over and checked on him, who eventually went back to the locker room to end his night. Davis played only seven minutes, recording four points, four rebounds, and a steal.

A video Weber shared shows Davis clearly experiencing an issue with his leg or ankle while on the sideline.

An extended Davis absence due to injury would be another rough setback for Dallas, which had high hopes ahead of the season due to getting No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg. As of this injury report, Davis was leading the Mavericks in scoring with 25 points per game, rebounds with 11.8 per game, blocks with 1.5 per game, and steals with 1.8 per game.

Their All-Star point guard, Kyrie Irving, was already out as he recovers from his ACL injury. The Mavs expected Irving to return at the earliest in January. However, during late September’s Mavs media day, coach Jason Kidd indicated Irving is ahead of schedule, per The Athletic’s Christian Clark.

As of this writing, Dallas held the lead in the fourth quarter in their game against Indiana, with Powell contributing 15 points and getting five rebounds so far in Davis’ absence.
