Police have closed roads and cleared a shopping center in Santa Monica, California Wednesday afternoon amid the search for an accused shooting suspect, a post on X from the local police said.
“One of our officers sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical care,” The Santa Monica Police Department said in the post.
There has been no further information released on the extent of the injuries nor the condition of the officer who was injured.
The suspect is described by police as a male in his 30’s and was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket and black pants, police said.
“If you recognize this individual or see someone matching this description, do not approach—call 9-1-1 immediately,” another post said.
People have been asked to avoid the area around Santa Monica Place as officers continue to respond to the situation.
