Woman who fatally poisoned ex-cop boyfriend with eye drops sentenced to 50 years

KNOX COUNTY, Ill. (TCN) — A woman convicted of poisoning her longtime boyfriend over a span of several months has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
The Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office announced June 26 that a judge found Marcy Oglesby, 53, guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery by administering a dangerous substance in connection with the death of retired Maquon Police Chief Richard “Rick” Young.
On Oct. 27, Knox County Circuit Judge Andrew Doyle sentenced Oglesby to five decades behund bars.
Oglesby poisoned Young with over-the-counter eye drops mixed into his food and drinks beginning in the summer 2021 until his death in November 2021 at age 71.
“She poisoned him and watched him suffer,” Knox County State’s Attorney Ashley Worby said at the sentencing hearing.
After Young’s death, Oglesby hid his body in a storage unit across the street from the home they shared in Maquon. His decomposing remains were discovered on Oct. 7, 2022. The toxicology report stated that Young’s body contained a deadly amount of tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient in over-the-counter eye drops.
The couple’s roommate, Karen Doubet, admitted to buying multiple bottles of eye drops and said Oglesby would add them, along with crushed pills, to meals and beverages served to Young.
According to the state attorney’s office, office, Young was a “devoted public servant.”
Oglesby initially claimed Young died of COVID-19 and said she stored his body because he wished to be buried in a “Indian burial mound.”
