Hungarian Children’s Film Wins Grand Prize in Montréal

Nóra Lakos’s “I Accidentally Wrote a Book” won the top prize (Grand Prix) at the Montréal International Children’s Film Festival, which was personally received by the film’s writer and director.

The Montréal International Children’s Film Festival (FIFEM) showcases the best family and youth films every year, giving a platform to filmmakers who are shaping the world of cinema with their works for the next generation.

“I Accidentally Wrote a Book” deals with the challenges of growing up and the importance of family through the story of a young girl who comes to terms with the loss of her mother through writing.

The National Film Institute’s press release quotes the festival’s jury, that in its decision highlighted

the consistency and creativity of the direction, the strong performance of the young lead actress, Villő Demeter, the unconventional storytelling and the bravura way the filmmakers managed to visualize concepts.”

The film had its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Northern Europe’s A-list festival, where it won the Best Film award in the Just Film Youth and Children’s Film Festival sub-program.
