Hysterics Over Different Ways Mom and Dad Reply to Daughter’s Outfit Photo

A woman has left social media users in hysterics by sharing the responses she received when she sent her parents a photo of her outfit.

In a video posted on December 19, TikTok user @laurquiinnn showed the photo she sent to her parents individually and the contrasting replies she received. The image showed her standing outside in a black coat and a beige hat and scarf.

As seen in the video, her mom expressed enthusiasm over the ensemble, writing in a text: “I love seeing you like that!!! Happy!!! I can’t wait to spend time with you!”

Her dad’s reply, on the other hand, was straight to the point: “Cold.”

The contrast between the replies has delighted TikTok users, and the video has amassed more than 1.5 million views and 132,000 likes on the platform. Newsweek has contacted @laurquiinnn via TikTok for comment.

While the video draws attention to the “difference between a mother and a father,” the poster added in the caption, “Love them both.”

Regardless of what response they receive, many young people feel it’s important to stay in close contact with their parents. A 2024 survey by the Pew Research Center found that 23 percent of young adults texted their parents at least once a day, and 38 percent messaged them a few times a week.

In fact, others preferred to have an even closer bond, as 14 percent of respondents said they spoke with their parents daily over the phone or via video chat, and 9 percent saw them every day.

The research found that 59 percent of young adults said their relationship with their parents was excellent or very good. Although they were more likely to say that about their mom than their dad—63 percent to 53 percent. Young women were also more likely to rate their relationship with their mom higher than their relationship with their dad. But there were no differences between how young men rated their relationship with either parent.

What Did TikTok Users Say?

Many viewers found the TikTok video relatable, and the clip has received more than 4,000 comments, with users sharing similar experiences.

One viewer wrote, “Listen, we got to let dads love how they love!”

“He said so much, you don’t even understand,” another added.

“The weather and the fit is cold…he is efficient,” a user commented.

Another said, “My dad’s response would be ‘when’s the last time you checked the oil in your car?'”
